YOGA IN PORTISHEAD
with Tricia Nicholls

About me
I teach hatha yoga, and a typical yoga class with me begins with a short relaxation to focus on the breath encouraging a mindful practice. I include both dynamic and static asanas (postures). I provide variations to asanas so students can practice at the level they feel is right for them. All students are encouraged to work with their breath and work to their own ability. Classes finish with a guided relaxation in Savasana. The aim of my teaching is to help people experience more freedom in their bodies, reducing stress and overall improve their physical and mental wellbeing.
Yoga experience
I have been practicing yoga for 30 years. I initially went to yoga classes as a way to improve my physical fitness but what surprised me was how relaxed and well I felt after a yoga class, I didn’t actually realise that I was stressed until I had experienced proper relaxation! Over the years, I have explored a few different styles of hatha yoga such as Iyengar, Sivananda and Viniyoga and I’ve gained such a lot from these different yoga traditions and I aim to incorporate what I’ve learned from my own practice in my teaching.
Yoga Training
In 2010, I took the British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) Foundation course. I chose to continue and study the 3 year BWY Diploma with Andrea Newman in Bristol. I completed my BWY 500hr Level 4 diploma in March 2015. I completed the BWY Meditation module with Kay Baxter in 2015, and have also trained in Thai Yoga Massage therapy with Barbara Wall. I regularly attend classes and workshops for my own personal development and am committed to my ongoing professional development by attending training workshops both within and outside the BWY.
